"You've reached the extension for submitting a story to the Cerealia Times. Please describe your story after the beep. For reference, please include your name and contact information. You may also make your tip anonymously, or ask for anonymity. As a source, your anonymity is protected by law, and will not be revealed without your express permission.

[if 2 is pressed]

"The Cerealia Times is in need of correspondents, reporters, photojournalists, and delivery personnel.

Correspondent: you are expected to respond to stories that break out in an assigned section of Cerealia, report the information at the scene, interview witnesses, and supply written stories. Mild literacy is required.

Reporters: you are expected to actively pursue assigned stories and conduct related interviews in a timely manner. Mild interpersonal skills a plus, but not essential. With approval, you will be free to investigate your own stories.

Photojournalists: you are expected to record newsworthy events on film. This may require taking shots under suboptimal conditions.

Delivery personnel: you are expected to transport, unload, and fold bundles of newspaper around Cerealia.

All of these jobs take long hours and are very demanding... but they're worth it. --Except for the delivery job, that's just busywork. Sss, sss!

Leave your contact information, desired post, and brief description of your experience, if any!"

Not everyone does that, you know?

[She thinks a bit first.]

How does four o'clock sound?

[As promised, Shiho waits patiently at McCeres with fries and a chocolate shake at around 4pm after school. She's already told Kaoru that she's having an interview before going back so she's just flipping through her Cerevice as she waits.]

[Boxes didn't exactly belong in a McCeres, so Shiho had been keeping an eye on it as it gets close enough to warrant her placing a hand on the table and activating her psychometry to figure out what exactly was in that box. (And hoping it wasn't some kind of possessed doll.)

She visibly relaxes once she figures out it's just Myriam.]

Yes, it is. And you're Myriam Scuttlebutt, right?

What else do they call you, then?

[Because it was either some sort of codename or really rude names.]

I'm fine. I just got here, anyway. And you? Isn't it hard to run around in that box?

Hmmm... [Well, no matter. Shiho shrugs, seemingly accepting that answer. She could figure this out later on her own.]

A steel-iron trap, huh....Cardboard is a bit weaker than that though. [Shiho would have suggested metal plates inside the box.]

Anyway. I've been running this one since I got here, so not very long. I had something like it back when I was at home though and I'd been working on that since I was ten. As for problems, well...

Here it's mostly finding medicine, lost cats, and cheating husbands. It's kinda boring. Back home I liked solving cold cases, especially the murders.

I'm sure it'll just be heavy in the beginning. Using it to train your body then soon you'd become [Goku] strong.

[Her eyes sparkle with a sincere cheerfulness at the mention of solving murders (which isn't worrying at all right).]

I like the really gruesome ones. Oh, it's even better when the police don't even know where the body is and they only have one single piece of evidence.

Serial killers are great too. [Especially because they always seemed so contemptuous in Shiho's eyes: using an MO like a signature, taunting others with the knowledge that they'd never be found. She made it her personal mission to take them down a notch. Or five.]

Well...

[Shiho taps a finger against the lid on her chocolate shake. How much could she tell her without talking about her psychometry? And about....espers in general, actually.]

There was that case where someone was going around killing homeless and petty criminals. 10 people had already been killed within a few months before I got called in. I made them take me to the latest crime scene so I could check it out.

Nearly all of victims had died from an unknown cause, collapsing suddenly in the middle of the night. I think there was even talk about toxic gas being emitted from the area.

[Though that was all ridiculous conjecture as far as she had been concerned. And she'd figured out as much when she'd gone to each crime scene and read them.]

It was mostly just luck that I found the criminal at all, that time. I was messing around with the detective's car, and I happened to find evidence of what he had done left behind.

[The self-justified feelings of a psychokinetic serial murderer thinking that he was above the law because he was a policeman.]

He wasn't any better than a vigilante. Then he was dumb enough to try to shoot me and write it off as a misfiring accident.

As if I'd have misfired and hit myself. [So unimpressed.]

We got him in the end and that's pretty much it. [Kaoru had thrown him out the window of his car using psychometry and everyone had come to protect her. It's a good memory of hers.]

[Shiho sits back, sipping on the shake as she thinks of what would be an acceptable alternative. She raises an eyebrow at Myriam.]

I did say they died from an unknown cause,. A scarf, knife or a bullet-hole aren't exactly subtle.

It might take a while [in a normal world] but it still won't be undetectable.

[Shiho briefly wonders if she should just say "magic" which is what she's been doing for a while.]

Mostly what we used in the end was the fact that he confessed it thinking that I found him out. And I guess because he tried to shoot me to cover it up too.

[Okay, she's managed to steer her away from the decisive evidence!]

I have a communicator with me at all times, so I just turned that on and broadcasted his confession to everyone else and they came to protect me.

[Never mind how they could get there so quickly (psychokinesis) or how they stopped him from shooting her (also psychokinesis).]

[To Shiho's credit, she only falters for a bit before answering.]

It was more like a two-way radio than a cell-phone.

[She was still wearing it on her finger right now, actually.]
